ENGINEERING GRADUATE PROFILES
Two recent graduates, Chris Borg and Tim Walton talk about their experiences at Lindsay & Dynan.
CHRIS BORG

Why did you accept your offer with Lindsay & Dynan over larger firms?

I chose L&D over offers from larger firms because I didn’t want to be pigeonholed and I knew I would gain more varied experience with a smaller firm.

Here I get both design and on-site experience, and I get to work on a really broad range of projects. L&D also offered me a great salary package, which was an added bonus!

What do you enjoy about working at Lindsay & Dynan?

All the staff are friendly and relaxed; the atmosphere makes it easy and enjoyable to learn while gaining experience in design.

As a new graduate, what kind of training and support do you receive at Lindsay & Dynan?

I have ongoing support and help from other graduates as well as senior engineers. They offer help and guidance when I have a problem and also encourage me to go out and learn new things with design.

What kind of projects have you worked on?

Steel design of a coal processing plant in New Zealand, design check on a stainless-steel handrail for a lighthouse, various footing designs, as well as a range of other projects.

What does a typical day involve?

Consulting with one of the senior engineers, receiving or continuing with design work, doing a few calculations, checking with a senior engineer, reviewing design and looking for other solutions.

What kind of a culture is there at Lindsay & Dynan?

Relaxed and friendly culture. The company has a large number of young people, so it’s easy to get along both socially and in a work environment.

Finally, what are three words that describe Lindsay & Dynan as a place to work?

Enjoyable, efficient, friendly.

TIM WALTON

What do you enjoy about working at Lindsay & Dynan?
Diverse group of people and very sociable, L&D soccer and netball teams, the broad range of projects and of course, Friday afternoon beers!

As a new graduate, what kind of training and support do you receive at Lindsay & Dynan?
All the more senior engineers and draftsmen are always willing to help you through any difficulties that you come across so you can complete your task.

What kind of projects have you worked on?
A seven-storey Energy Australia substation right in the middle of Pitt Street, Sydney, coal mine conveyors and preparation plants and a large homemakers centre at Warners Bay.

What does a typical day involve?
Wake up to a good brekkie, at work by 8am,  spend the day designing, checking designs and consulting with other staff and clients, broken up with a foosball battle over lunch, and then usually take off to footy training in the afternoon.

What kind of a culture is there at Lindsay & Dynan?
Work hard and play hard.

Finally, what are three words that describe Lindsay & Dynan as a place to work?
Sociable, challenging, varied.
